Your surgical care
From consultation to follow-up.
The exact plan depends on the diagnosis and procedure. These are the decisions and handoffs that usually shape care.
The care sequence
Four stages, with a clear next step after each one.
- 1
Consultation
We review the problem, relevant records, prior treatment, and reasonable options. The visit ends with a recommendation: further evaluation, nonsurgical care, an office procedure, hospital surgery, or another specialist.
- 2
Preparation
When a procedure is planned, we settle the care setting, medical history, medications, testing, anesthesia, transportation, recovery support, and any authorization requirements.
- 3
Procedure
Selected procedures take place in our office. Advanced procedures requiring hospital operating rooms, monitoring, or inpatient resources are performed at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital by VSS clinicians who hold privileges there.
- 4
Recovery and follow-up
Before discharge, the responsible clinical team provides the instructions that apply to the procedure. Follow-up addresses recovery, results, wound or symptom concerns, and the next appointment.
Instructions
Use the directions given for your procedure.
Fasting, medication, arrival, transportation, and recovery instructions differ by procedure and care setting. General website information cannot replace the plan issued by your surgical and anesthesia teams.
